Eighth Grade English News
April 23 to 30
The poetry project turned out to be a great
success. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the
fine creative work. Better yet, I believe the
students also enjoyed the time they spent
working on it.
The Unit 15 test should be on Thursday if all
goes as planned. It shouldn’t be too painful as
it only deals with three concepts, the
participle, gerund, and infinitive. I have
given each student a study guide which reviews
all we have studied about verbs and a review of
the verbals of Unit 15. It shows the students
that what they already have learned about verbs
is far greater than the three concepts in Unit
15.
As an added note, I’m very proud of one of our
fourth graders, Emma Koontz, who is a
semi-finalist in the Illinois Fatherhood
Initiative Essay writing contest. She was
chosen as one of the 156 semi-finalists from
among 18,000 + entries. That is quite an
honor. It was well worth the time spent
coordinating this project. Cathedral Grade
School is packed with so many talented students.
