February 6 – 29, 2012
As you can see by the dates above, I am including
information in this newsletter for the entire month of February. Unless
something changes, I will be including an entire month’s worth of information in
each newsletter between now and the end of the school year. If something comes
up that I did not include, I will send a separate note to inform you. Thank you
to everyone for allowing your children to walk down the hallway by themselves
and enter the classroom on their own—it really does make a difference in our
morning routine!
Math
– Throughout the month of February, we will count and make groups of objects to
10; compare groups to determine same/equal to, more, and fewer; recognize
numerals from 11-20; explore the concept of high and low; order levels from
highest to lowest; explore the concept of weight; and compare the weight of
objects
Phone Numbers – If you have not turned in the paper letting me
know what phone number you would like your child to recite to me, please do so
by next week. I will begin testing the children on how well they know their
phone numbers during the week of February 6th. If I do not get a
slip back from you, I will put your home number down as the one you want your
child to know.
Reading
– Throughout the month of February, we will be working more in our journals to
add words to our pictures and to write the capital and lowercase letters from Aa
– Zz. I will also begin to test the children on how well they can recognize
their last name. By the end of the month, you will be receiving worksheets to
help the children practice writing their last names in correct formation if they
do not know how to do so already. Also, throughout the month of February we
will do some activities to honor our presidents—past and present!
Religion
– During the month of February, we will discuss the following stories in
Religion: “Baby Diana’s Special Day,” “Helping Mom,” and “Everyone Had Enough
to Eat.” By Thursday, February 9th, I would like each child to bring
in a picture of his/her baptism since that’s what our discussion will be about.
The story, “Helping Mom” is a special story about sharing love on Valentine’s
Day and throughout the year.
Earthquake Drill –
On Tuesday, February 7th, we will be
participating in the nationwide earthquake drill at school.
McKendree University Field Trip – Just a reminder that Thursday,
February 9, 2012, we will be heading to McKendree University with the
Kindergarteners through 3rd Graders to see the play, “Storytime.” We
will leave around 11:45 a.m. and return by 2:00 p.m.
Valentine’s Day
– We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th.
Please have the children come to school dressed in something red, white, and/or
pink for the day. Our head room parent will be working on getting a snack and
drink to us that day. The children will also need to bring Valentine cards in
to pass out to their friends during the afternoon. The children may also
include a small treat with their cards if they want. We made a special
Valentine’s card holder with our 5th Grade buddies, so you will not
need to send one in with your child. I will be sending home a class list next
week in case the children want to personalize their cards. If you have any
questions regarding this day, please feel free to contact me.
Scholastic Book Order – The February flyer will be coming home on Monday,
February 6th. If you would like to purchase anything from the flyer
or online, please do so by Friday, February 10th.
Catholic Schools’ Week – A huge “THANK YOU” to the 3rd
and 4th Grade Teachers for planning all the wonderful events for
Catholic Schools’ Week. The Pre-K children loved participating in everything
and were so glad to be included in the festivities!!
